‘None of Above’ Voting Option
If you want to throw your vote away, don’t vote. Prop. 23 would give voters the option of voting for “none of the above” for all state and federal offices except judges. Many people already view voting as a waste of time. This frivolous ballot option would reinforce those unfortunate views by adding a laugh factor.
Why would someone make the effort to drive to his/her polling place to choose the option of voting for none of the candidates? A vote is a terrible thing to waste.

Re “Prop. 23: It’s None-Sense,” editorial, Feb. 19: I agree. With open primaries now, there is always the option of a protest vote for some party’s minority candidate. Prop. 23 should have been designed to force a new election, with all previous candidates barred.

If a voter indicates his unhappiness with both parties by refraining from voting, then both parties can safely ignore him.
If, however, a large number of people got up off their duffs and actually went to the polls to vote “none of the above,” then both parties would have to start expending time, money and energy trying to win these actively concerned people over to their side. While Prop. 23 may seem funny at first, it’s definitely not “none-sense.”
