LOS ANGELES — A 30-year veteran of seven Los Angeles County agencies has been appointed to head the Internal Services Department, which handles the nuts and bolts operations of the $15-billion bureaucracy.
Joan Ouderkirk had served as interim director of the department since March 1998 before she was officially elevated to the directorship by the Board of Supervisors during a closed-door meeting Tuesday.
Ouderkirk previously was deputy director of internal services, and before that, of the probation department. She has also worked in the county treasurer and tax collector’s office and the district attorney’s budget office.
In her $152,834 post, Ouderkirk heads an agency with a $100-million budget that is responsible for telecommunications service, building maintenance and other operations in county offices.
