‘Rosie the Riveter’ Park Bill Advances

From Times Wire Reports

“Rosie the Riveter,” the famous figure in a poster whose flexed muscle embodied the fighting spirit of millions of America’s working women during World War II, is a step closer to having a memorial. A bill that would establish the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historic Park in Richmond, Calif., cleared the House on a voice vote. A Senate hearing on a similar measure is scheduled Thursday. The national park would salute the role of the home front during the war, particularly recognizing the significant changes in the lives of women and minorities that occurred during that era, said Rep. George Miller (D-Martinez), who sponsored the legislation.
