A gunshot victim found on a hillside in Elysian Park last week was identified Friday as a 13-year-old Whittier girl who has been missing since May 2, authorities said.
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s detective recognized the girl from a composite sketch in Thursday’s Times.
“The investigator contacted the coroner’s office and upon further investigation identified the victim as a 13-year-old female who was reported missing to the Pico Rivera sheriff’s station,” an LAPD spokesman said.
The girl’s name was withheld by the coroner’s office, and no further information was released.
The victim, who had been known as Jane Doe No. 39, was spotted near a picnic area on the morning of June 28 by a man walking his dog, detectives said.
