School’s Test Results Voided Because of Theft

Officials have voided ACT college entrance exam scores of 48 El Camino Real High School students after it was discovered that a copy of the test had been stolen by a classmate.
Students who took the three-hour exam earlier this month have three options: They can take the $23 test for free on July 7, take it for free at a later date or get a refund.
Four El Camino students who were involved in the theft are being disciplined, said Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman Cricket Bauer. She also said some students will probably be suspended.
Because those connected to the theft are El Camino students, ACT Inc. decided that every El Camino student who took the test on June 9 would need to retest. In total, 408 students from various schools had registered for the test.
“We believe any security breach was confined to that high school,” said Ken Gullette, spokesman for ACT Inc., who owns the test that is taken by 1.8 million students nationwide each year.
ACT Inc. has not yet decided whether to press criminal charges.
