A 16-year-old boy visiting from Mexico drowned in the backyard pool of a Reseda home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
A relative had pulled the boy from the pool before firefighters reached the house in the 6900 block of Sylvia Avenue about 2:20 p.m., but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells. The boy had been staying with relatives at the home, said Lt. Tom Smart of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division.
“There were no suspicious circumstances. Apparently he didn’t know how to swim,” Smart said.
