More than $341,000 in grants were awarded Tuesday to 15 programs that aim to improve day care and provide enrichment programs for children, the Thelma Pearl Howard Foundation announced.
The grants include $20,000 for the Deaf West Theatre Company of North Hollywood to provide workshops and storytelling sessions for deaf youth and their parents; $12,000 for integration workshops for students at Lokrantz Special Education Center in Reseda; and $20,000 for the Los Angeles Conservation Corps to expand an arts and music program for low-income families living in South-Central Los Angeles and the Pico-Union area.
The foundation, a fund of the California Community Foundation, was established by the estate of Thelma Pearl Howard, a live-in cook and housekeeper for Walt Disney.
