Sports events canceled or postponed because of Tuesday’s terrorist attacks:
Baseball
All games have been postponed through Sunday. The Dodgers will play host to San Diego on Monday and the Angels travel to Seattle and resume play Tuesday. After the completion of the original schedule, teams will then play the games that were missed to complete the season.
Boxing
Saturday night’s middleweight unification title bout between Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad at Madison Square Garden was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
College Football
All Division I-A games scheduled for tonight or Saturday have been postponed or canceled. Teams will resume play next week. Fifty-four games involving I-A teams were postponed and four games--Navy at Northwestern, Bowling Green at South Carolina, Marshall at Texas Christian and Appalachian State at Troy State--were canceled. Ten Division I-AA games are scheduled for Saturday and one--Kentucky Wesleyan at Tennessee-Martin, was played Thursday night.
Other College Events
The National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics postponed its national convention scheduled to begin Saturday in St. Louis.
Golf
The LPGA canceled the Safeway Classic in Oregon. On Wednesday, the PGA Tour canceled the World Golf Championship in St. Louis, the Tampa Bay Classic, the Buy.com Tour event in Oregon and the Senior Tour event in North Carolina.
High Schools
The Los Angeles Unified School District has canceled all athlete events, as has the Archiocese of Los Angeles and the Orange County Department of Education. Several Southern Section schools will play games tonight and Saturday.
Hockey
The NHL announced that all exhibition games scheduled through Sunday have been postponed. The Mighty Ducks-Kings game, which was scheduled for Saturday night at Staples Center, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Horse Racing
Fairplex Park and Los Alamitos have resumed racing. Belmont Park is scheduled to resume racing on Saturday.
Motor Sports
NASCAR canceled Sunday’s New Hampshire 300 and a truck race at Texas Motor Speedway. The New Hampshire event has been rescheduled for Nov. 23 and the truck event has been reset for Oct. 5. The Indy Racing league’s Chevy 500, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed until Oct. 6. CART’s event in Klettwitz, Germany--the German 500--is scheduled to be run Saturday.
Pro Basketball
The NBA canceled its rookie orientation program, scheduled to begin Sunday, an exhibition tour of China and Taiwan that was to begin Sunday, and league meetings next week in Orlando, Fla. A charity game scheduled for Sunday night at Madison Square Garden also was canceled.
Pro Football
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced that all NFL games scheduled for Sunday and Monday had been postponed.
Soccer
Major League Soccer canceled the remaining games on its regular-season schedule and will resume play Thursday with the start of the playoffs. The final match of the U.S. Women’s Cup between the U.S. and China in Kansas City was canceled.
