Goalkeeper Will Johnson made four saves to help the Santa Margarita boys’ soccer team defeat Palm Beach (Fla.) Winter Park, 4-0, on Monday to win the championship of the Premier Bracket at the Student Sport Invitational tournament in Tampa, Fla.
Santa Margarita (9-0), No. 1 in The Times’ rankings and No. 2 in the nation, according to Student Sports magazine, put on a dominant performance by outscoring its five tournament opponents, 18-1.
Eagle midfielder Tannen Wells and defender Sean Kardous were selected the bracket’s offensive and defensive players of the tournament.

Meghan McGuire scored 22 points to lead the Fullerton Troy girls’ basketball team to a 58-51 victory over Santa Margarita to win the championship of the Gold Division at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
McGuire was named the division’s most valuable player and Troy, No. 11 in The Times’ rankings, improved to 8-1. Julia Pederson had 22 points for Santa Margarita (7-1).
Mike Alexander has been promoted from offensive line coach to head coach, replacing Ed Lalau at Wilmington Banning High.
Lalau, who resigned after going 23-24 in five seasons, said he wanted to try coaching at the collegiate level.

Albert Carrillo and his brother Jessie Carrillo have been named co-head football coaches at Los Angeles Lincoln.
Albert was the head coach and Jessie was the defensive coordinator for the last two seasons at Los Angeles Murphy, where they compiled a 10-10 record.

Tracy Spencer has been named as Beverly Hills’ track coach, succeeding Mitch Cohen. Spencer has served as an assistant coach at Occidental College and Burbank Burroughs.
