All That Glitters Will Be Sold

Prince Jefri Bolkiah, brother of the Sultan of Brunei, did an extensive renovation of this Beverly Hills-area house in 1998, gutting the interiors and replacing them with marble marquetry, exotic woods and 24-karat gold guilding.
Jefri didn’t finish what he started, however, and sold the house about three years ago to a businessman who completed the work and now calls it home.
About this house: Though it looks like a pricey hotel, it is a single-family residence on a grand scale.
Asking price: $19.5 million
Size: Ten bedroom suites, including two master suites and a five-bedroom guest house, in more than 20,000 square feet. The estate is on a two-plus acre promontory, one of the highest in the area, with 360-degree views from the ocean to the San Fernando Valley to downtown Los Angeles.
It has been estimated that more than $1,000 a square foot was spent on the rehab.
Features: Wood-paneled library; state-of-art media room with THX large-screen theater and surround-sound; a dining room, junior dining room, kitchen with cherry cabinetry; private office off one of the master suites; living room with marble fireplace; guest house with living and dining rooms as well as a kitchen; grand entry court; two waterfalls framed by topiary leading to a gazebo with a meditation area; manicured grounds and a pool with a spa.
Where: Beverly Hills area
