Blackjack Expert Thorp Gives $1 Million to UCI

Edward O. Thorp, who wrote one of the best-known books on blackjack, has given $1 million to UC Irvine, where he was a founding faculty member.
The money will be used to fund the research of a professor the university will recruit.
Thorp, of Newport Coast, taught mathematics and finance. He wrote “Beat the Dealer: A Winning Strategy for the Game of Twenty-One.”
