Victory Near in Coyote Fire

A lightning-sparked wildfire that has scorched nearly 19,000 acres across the Chihuahua Valley in San Diego County was expected to be fully contained by today.
The Coyote Fire began last Wednesday along the remote border of Riverside and San Diego counties, about 30 miles southeast of Temecula.
Erratic winds and the remote location hampered firefighters’ efforts early on, but more than 50% of the blaze was contained by Monday.
The fire destroyed parts of a research facility operated by San Diego State University, but nearby homes and the Boy Scouts’ Lost Valley Scout Reservation were spared.
Fire officials estimated the damage at $190,600.
