Probation Given in Fatal Accident

The driver of a pickup involved in an accident in Riverside that killed a CHP motorcycle officer was sentenced to three years’ probation Thursday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.
In August, Miguel Leon Martin made an illegal left turn in front of Officer Shannon Distel, who was thrown from his motorcycle and died at a Riverside hospital.
After a drug test on Martin returned negative, charges against him were reduced.
