Six Dead After Fighters Attack Checkpoint

A vehicle carrying a group of suspected Taliban fighters attacked a military checkpoint 90 miles west of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, sparking a firefight that left six people dead and at least four wounded, Kandahar police chief Khan Mohammed said.
The battle killed four soldiers, a civilian and an attacker, police said. Security forces were pursuing the others.
