Faculty Members Forced Costly Election

Re “March Election Will Fill College Trustee Seat,” Dec. 11: I find it ludicrous that the faculty of the South Orange County Community College District can force taxpayers to absorb a $400,000-to-$800,000 expense for a meaningless election. Further, I’m amazed there is such an apparent lack of district leadership that the selection of a replacement trustee can cause such a problem. The faculty doesn’t seem to appreciate that taxpayers make it possible for them to enjoy one of the state’s highest pay schedules, work in an environment most people would find enviable, have teaching schedules that don’t even require them to be on campus on a daily basis, [plus enjoy] fringe benefit packages.
Come down out of your ivory towers and get a life.
