It’s Official: A Runoff for President Needed

A former security minister won the most votes in Indonesia’s presidential election, but will have to face a September runoff against incumbent Megawati Sukarnoputri, who finished second, according to official results.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono won 33.5% of valid votes cast in the July 5 polls, and Megawati had 26.6%, according to the election commission.
Six years after the fall of dictator Suharto, the elections marked the first time that Indonesians, who number 210 million, could vote directly for president.
