Man Dies After Police Use Stun Gun on Him

A man acting erratically was shot twice by police with Taser stun-gun darts and died.
About 11 p.m. Sunday, a Del Rey Oaks police officer tried to talk to a man who had been running through yards and screaming, Seaside Capt. Steve Cercone said Monday.
As officers tried to arrest the man, he started swinging a two-by-four, prompting a Seaside officer to shoot a Taser at him, police said. The first Taser didn’t work, but the man dropped the two-by-four after the second was fired, Cercone said.
The man, whose name was withheld, was handcuffed and began having trouble breathing. He was taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, where he died, Cercone said.
The Monterey County district attorney’s office is conducting an investigation.
