Good times, bad times in Bulgaria
I am writing to you from Sofia, Bulgaria, where I am visiting my husband on a movie shoot. I was very excited about visiting here after reading Barry Zwick’s article [“Sofia, the Belle of the Balkans,” June 12], but I couldn’t disagree more with his findings.
My family and I just came from the Machu Picchu restaurant, where we had an almost inedible meal. Zwick’s quote “my fellow shoppers were full of good cheer” is the direct opposite of what we encountered.
My advice is forget Sofia and visit Rila Monastery up in the mountains, where people are friendly and prices are reasonable.
