August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean,” which struggled to get to Broadway, will close there Feb. 6 after 72 regular performances.
“We were simply unable to build an audience during the historically harsh months of January and February,” Jujamcyn Theaters President Rocco Landesman said in a written statement Tuesday.
The play, which had an earlier run at the Mark Taper Forum, originally was scheduled to open on Broadway on Nov. 11 but had to postpone that date after a major investor pulled out. It finally opened Dec. 6 after new financing was secured.
