Board of Education OKs Provisional Budget

The Los Angeles Board of Education approved a provisional $6.6-billion general fund budget for 2005-06 on Tuesday.
The board was under pressure to approve the spending plan before Thursday, when state law requires the school system to submit a balanced, three-year budget projection to county education officials. The board will finalize the budget later this summer after lawmakers approve the state budget.
The board postponed a decision on a bond issue until July 12. The proposed $3.8-billion issue, for the November ballot, would further fund the district’s continuing construction program.
