Activist Arrested After Discussing Crackdown

From Times Wire Reports

Uzbekistan has arrested a human rights activist who gave reporters firsthand accounts of a bloody government crackdown on protesters, New York-based Human Rights Watch said.

The organization said Saidjahon Zainabitdinov was held as part of a government effort to suppress details of the May 13 bloodshed in Andijon, where troops are believed to have killed hundreds of protesters.

Zainabitdinov was arrested in Andijon on Saturday, but his family was not informed until Monday, and the charges against him are not known, the rights group said.
