Supervisors to Research Ethics Violation Law

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday asked its staff to research the possibility of adopting criminal punishments for public officials who violate county ethics policies, and also how to provide online access to a host of county public records.
The board voted, 4-0, for staff to look into an ordinance that would make violating county ethics policies a misdemeanor.
The staff will also explore putting campaign finance and county contractor information online, and evaluate county ethics policies and training and the position of county ethics officer.
The board expects to receive the staff’s report on the cost and feasibility of such programs by February.
