Venus Williams is the highest-ranking American in the WTA Tour Sony Ericsson championship points race at No. 33 (422 points). The championship points are used to determine the eligibility for the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships; the top eight qualify. Rankings are based on the points a player receives from each tournament played in the calendar year. Note: American Lindsay Davenport is No. 10 in the WTA Tour rankings, based on points awarded for each tournament played during the previous 52 weeks:
