Slatkin to advise Nashville Symphony in search

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Nashville Symphony, without a conductor since Kenneth Schermerhorn died last year, has hired Leonard Slatkin to serve as the orchestra’s musical adviser.
Slatkin, musical director at the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., will help the symphony search for Schermerhorn’s replacement.
During his three-year tenure, Slatkin will assist in the programming of future seasons, hiring new musicians and selecting guest artists for the first season in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which opens Sept. 9.
Slatkin was the recipient of the 2003 National Medal of Arts, the highest honor awarded to artists by the federal government.
He is also the principal guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
