McDonald’s Corp. posted a 4.5% increase in May sales at stores open at least 13 months, helped by new products and longer hours in the United States.
Same-store sales rose 3.4% in the United States and 4.9% in Europe.
Sales in the United States were helped by the company’s new Asian chicken salad and premium coffee. In Europe, McDonald’s, the world’s largest restaurant operator, said sales were helped by a World Cuprelated promotion in Britain and a sandwich promotion in Germany.
Same-store sales rose 6.5% in the Asia/Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa, the company said. Shares of Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s rose 37 cents to $33.69.
