Music labels including Bertelsmann’s Arista Records Inc. and EMI Group Capital Records sued Usenet.com to prevent it from providing access to an Internet network with millions of pirated songs.
Fourteen labels claim in a complaint filed in federal court in New York that Usenet.com, based in Fargo, N.D., is infringing their copyrights by giving its customers access to parts of a network with illegal copies of songs.
The companies are seeking to block Usenet.com from offering access to those parts of the network and undetermined damages.
