The obituary for Jane Wyman (Sept. 11) mentioned that she won the best actress Academy Award for her role as a deaf-mute rape victim in “Johnny Belinda.” What it neglected to mention is that her marvelous acceptance speech was perhaps the shortest ever given: “I won this award by keeping my mouth shut, and I think I’ll do it again.” Perhaps future winners will take a hint.
