Colombian massacre: An article in Tuesday’s Section A about a verdict in the ambush killing of 10 police officers and an informant said a judge in Cali, Colombia, found an army colonel and 14 soldiers guilty of killing them on the orders of drug traffickers. The aggravated homicide verdict did not specify a motive. Colombia’s special prosecutor said during the trial that traffickers had ordered the killing. The convicted colonel maintained that the massacre was a case of mistaken identity. At sentencing in two weeks, the judge may state a suspected motive for the killings.
