Why it matters: This is the second meeting this season between these Big VIII League heavyweights, with King winning the first game, 5-1, last month. The Wolves, ranked No. 10 in the Southland by The Times, feature Canisius-bound senior pitcher Amanda Braun (7-0) and Hampton-bound senior right fielder Carla Trimble, who is hitting .533 with 13 runs batted in. No. 16 Santiago has San Diego State-bound EA Sports All-American senior pitcher Kamerin May and several top hitters, including San Diego State-bound senior catcher Kristen May (.520 average), UC Santa Barbara-bound senior shortstop Jackie Sweet (.575) and Oklahoma-bound senior outfielder Brianna Turang (.600).

BASEBALL RESULT
Orange Lutheran 8, Rancho Santa Margarita 1
Top contributors: Orange Lutheran’s Andrew Thurman struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings. Lutheran’s Pierce Bily and Willie Shaw both had two hits.
The scoop: Thurman, a junior right-hander who has committed to UC Irvine, struck out the first four batters and had a no-hitter for 5 2/3 innings. “It was a great way to start,” he said. “From there, I felt total confidence.” Rancho Santa Margarita committed three errors.
Why it matters: Santa Margarita was the only unbeaten team in the Trinity League, and Orange Lutheran needed the victory to stay in the title hunt going into a Saturday game against No. 1-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei.
Records: Orange Lutheran 8-3, 2-2; Santa Margarita 7-4, 3-1.
