The Iranian drama “About Elly” won the top narrative prize at the eighth annual Tribeca Film Festival, with the go-kart documentary “Racing Dreams” collecting the best nonfiction film award, the festival announced Thursday night.
The New York festival, founded by actor Robert De Niro’s entertainment company to stimulate downtown Manhattan after the Sept. 11 attacks, gave its top acting awards to Ciaran Hinds for “The Eclipse” and Zoe Kazan for “The Exploding Girl.”
Other film prizes for the festival, which carries a heavy emphasis on foreign-language and documentary films, went to “Nord” (winner of the best new narrative filmmaker prize) and “Fixer” (for best new documentary director). The documentary “Defamation” collected a special jury mention honor.
