Re “Hero librarians save my babies,” Opinion, Oct. 11
While I enjoyed Amy Goldman Koss’ enthusiasm for librarians, I was saddened by the knowledge that school librarians -- often the only people who connect kids to books -- are an endangered species in California.
Before last year’s budget cuts, the state trailed the national average of qualified teacher librarians in schools; since June, the statistics are downright scary.
We talk a lot about the literacy crisis in our schools, and yet we take from our students the people who can best promote literacy.
