Tim Pawlenty plans major economic policy speech in Chicago

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will come to President Obama’s hometown of Chicago next week to deliver a major economic policy address, a campaign aide said Friday.
In his speech next Tuesday, the Republican presidential hopeful will “offer a specific plan for boosting the economy and creating jobs,” the aide said. He’ll also outline steps he would take to balance the federal budget, overhaul the tax code and reduce regulation.
Pawlenty kicked off his campaign in Iowa May 23 with a promise to “tell the truth” about the nation’s challenges and offer specific plans to overcome them.
In a statement released Friday, Pawlenty called the disappointing monthly jobs report a sign of Obama’s “failure to address the tough challenges we face as a nation.”
“We need a leader to stand up and make the difficult choices essential to spur economic growth and create new jobs,” he said.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was in Chicago last week to announce his Illinois leadership team. He also met with small business owners at Gino’s East pizzeria to discuss the economy.
Pawlenty is in Washington this weekend to address the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference.
