‘The Eagle Huntress,’ ‘O.J.: Made in America’ among 2017 Producers Guild Award documentary nominees

The Producers Guild of America announced on Tuesday the five nominees for documentary theatrical motion pictures for the 2017 Producers Guild Awards.
They include the acclaimed “The Eagle Huntress,” which chronicled the life of a 13-year-old girl from Asia’s Altai Mountains as she defied generations of tradition by learning to hunt with fierce golden eagles.
Also nominated is “O.J.: Made in America,” ESPN’s 464-minute documentary that was presented both as a documentary in theaters and as a five-part series on television. Times film critic Kenneth Turan described it as “the O.J. project to watch if you are watching only one.”
The nominees also include the experimental documentary “Tower,” which used animated reenactments to tell the story of the 1966 shootings at the University of Texas at Austin.

Rounding out the five nominees are “Life, Animated” and “Dancer.”
The PGA nominations for television series/special, children’s programs, long-form television, sports and digital series will be announced Jan. 5, and nominees for the film and animated-film categories will be revealed Jan. 10.
The 2017 PGA Awards will be presented Jan. 28 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, with special honors to be given to Tom Rothman, James L. Brooks and Irwin Winkler, among others.
