Menopause the Musical

Generally speaking, menopause is no laugh riot. But you’d never know that from the reaction of audiences at “Menopause the Musical” at Luxor.
The plot of this hilarious musical sendup has four middle-aged women meeting in a tussle over a sale-rack bra at Bloomingdale’s. Come to find out our earth mother hippie, hard-charging professional woman, aging soap star and Midwestern mom share a lot — the manifold miseries wrought by menopause.
Tales of woe unfold through musical parodies of pop hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. “Chain of Fools” becomes “Change of Life,” “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” “Night Fever” becomes “Night Sweating,” and “My Guy” becomes “My Thighs.”
The rotating cast includes Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” as the soap star and the big-voiced Skye Dee Miles as the professional woman.
By the end, the foursome accepts that you can’t turn back the clock, but you can wind it up again. For the finale, the ladies invite audience members onstage for a celebratory kick line. The take home is that a gal can kick up her heels at any stage of life, even if she exposes a dimpled thigh in the process.
