A 12-year-old girl who was pulled not breathing from a motel pool in Hollywood, along with her mother and 11-year-old brother, has died, officials said Tuesday.
The boy was listed in stable condition and breathing on his own two days after the incident, although he remains hospitalized, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The mother remains in serious condition.
The girl, who was not identified, died Thursday.
The incident occurred the afternoon of Aug. 4, when the children and two others were swimming in the pool of the Hollywood Premiere Motel in the 5300 block of Hollywood Boulevard.
After the two older children drifted into the deep end of the pool, the 36-year-old mother jumped in to rescue them, but she too began to drown.
A man who lives in the area heard the younger two children screaming and was able to pull all three victims from the pool, however they were not breathing and did not have pulses. The man performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The aging motel is a two-story building near Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue. The pool is fenced off and measures 7 1/2 feet at its deepest point. A sign on a wall reads “No Lifeguard.”
