Operations resume at Los Angeles-area airports after computer glitch

Operations at Los Angeles International Airport were returning to normal Thursday, a day after a computer glitch grounded flights across Southern California.
The computer problems occurred at the Los Angeles air traffic control center, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said, and LAX, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Ontario International Airport and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank were among the airports affected by a subsequent FAA order that prevented flights from departing.
The order, though, had a far greater effect at LAX, where the airport reported 27 cancellations, 212 delays and 27 diversions as of Wednesday night.
The FAA also issued a nationwide ground stop for planes heading into the airspace managed by the center, disrupting travel plans across the U.S.
Normal departure and arrival operations at LAX were expected to resume late Wednesday and be in effect Thursday morning, according to the airport’s Twitter account.
