Reader Photo: Shades of blue
During a photo workshop in Death Valley, Hadley Johnson shot this image during “blue hour,” the time of day when the sun is below the horizon and indirect sunlight casts a deep blue hue.
He and two friends were about to finish up a shoot in the salt flats when they noticed Venus shining above the moon.
“It was a view too beautiful to pass up,” he said. “I was fortunate to have a wonderfully shaped salt hexagon in the foreground.”
Johnson used a Sony A7s camera with a wide-angle lens to make the image.
