Campaign cash pours into 26th Senate District race

SACRAMENTO -- The contest for the 26th Senate District seat has drawn a flood of money to candidates seeking to fill the seat being vacated by state Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), who is running for Congress.
Candidates were required to disclose fundraising for the period from Jan. 1 through March 17 in reports filed Monday with the state.
Democratic candidates in the race include Manhattan Beach Mayor Amy Howorth, who had $348,339 in her campaign account on March 17; Santa Monica-Malibu school board member Ben Allen, who reported $224,034; and physician Vito Imbasciani, who had $168,133 in his account.
Other Democratic candidates include former Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, who reported $145,709; attorney Sandra Fluke, who had $121,025 in her account; writer/producer Patric Verrone, whose account had $44,753; and attorney Barbi Appelquist, who reported $4,774.
Attorney Seth Stodder, a no-party-preference candidate, reported $6,387
The election is June 3.
The top two vote-getters, regardless of their party, will face off in a runoff in November.
