Letters: Texas’ take on abortion rights

Re “Texas again takes up abortion bill,” July 2
Texas Gov. Rick Perry joins a long list of conservative Republicans who are fixated on legally curtailing women’s reproductive rights.
This is curious because recently, Republicans in the House tried but failed to pass $20.5 billion in cuts to food stamps that would have eliminated free school lunches for hundreds of thousands of low-income children.
In their blind quest to save the fetus, Republicans have forsaken the child.

Texas has lots of people running around carrying guns. Texas executes more people than any other state. In remarks to an antiabortion group, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said, “Texas is and will always be the most pro-life state in America.”
Was that supposed to be funny?
