Dodgers’ offense struggles and pitcher Alex Wood is only so-so in 3-1 loss to Kansas City

Highlights of the Dodgers’ 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

AT THE PLATE: The lone Dodgers run occurred when outfielder Rico Noel ripped an RBI double off Royals reliever Scott Alexander. Kansas City starter Chris Young walked three but did not give up a hit during 4 1/3 innings.

ON THE MOUND: The Royals pecked away at Alex Wood for three runs and six hits across four innings. Wood balked in the second inning with two runners aboard, which led to both men scoring. Salvador Perez hit a solo homer in the third inning. Wood struck out four. His Cactus League earned-run average is 6.00. “I thought the stuff was good,” Wood said. “I was efficient again, which I was happy about. I really attacked the strike zone pretty well tonight.” Wood will likely make two more starts before the season begins.

EXTRA BASES: Trayce Thompson played nine innings in left field, as the Dodgers move forward after Andre Ethier’s broken leg. “Get him comfortable, just to help our decisions going forward,” Manager Dave Roberts said. . . . Louis Coleman pitched another quality inning in relief. He gave up a single but no runs. He has faced 24 batters this spring and struck out 10 of them. “He’s done a lot of good things,” Roberts said.
