Baseball: Harvard-Westlake falls to 2-3 in Mission League

Harvard-Westlake is 12-0 in nonleague games. But the Wolverines better start playing better in the Mission League if they want to make the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

They fell to 2-3 in league play on Tuesday when Loyola pulled out a 5-4 win on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Stephen Burke. Henry Stellwagen, Holden Groff and Timmy Post combined to give up one earned run. Matt McGeagh had two hits.

Jake Suddleson homered for Harvard-Westlake (14-3).

Loyola (3-0) took over first place after Alemany (13-5, 4-1) committed seven errors and lost to St. Francis, 7-6, in eight innings. Miles Bryant went two for two to lead St. Francis. Grant Victor had the walk-off hit in the eighth for St. Francis.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Crespi, 18-4. Crespi used its JV team as a final disciplinary action taken against varsity players for an off-the-field incident involving alcohol at a tournament game two weeks ago.

In the Big VIII League, Corona’s pitching staff had been throwing lots of low-scoring games until Corona Santiago came away with a 10-5 win. Ryon Knowles had three hits and Brice Turang added two hits and two RBI.

In the Valle Vista League, unbeaten San Dimas won its 19th consecutive game with a 4-0 win over Northview. Jacob Castillo struck out 10 and threw a one-hitter. He also had two hits.

Warren pulled out a 7-6 win over Gahr in the San Gabriel Valley League on a walk-off hit by Junior Ruiz, who went four for five on the day. Steven Nuno added three hits and three RBI. Warren is 15-6 and 1-0.

Foothill defeated Anaheim Canyon, 3-1, in eight innings at Angel Stadium. Sebastian Lopez improved to 8-0

In the Montview League, Baldwin Park defeated Duarte, 1-0. Anthony Franco struck out nine and threw a two-hitter.

In the Channel League, Santa Barbara defeated San Marcos, 3-2. Kevin Dowdy struck out eight in four innings.

Culver City won its Ocean League opener over Lawndale, 1-0. Jay Sterner threw the shutout and Nolan Martinez drove in the game’s only run. El Segundo defeated Beverly Hills, 8-1. Hunter Lewis had two hits and three RBI.

El Modena defeated Laguna Beach, 8-4. AJ Esparza went two for two with two RBI.

In the Pacific League, Burroughs defeated Muir, 28-0, in five innings. Thomas Wilson didn’t allow a hit and struck out 10. Brian Gadsby struck out 12 in Crescenta Valley’s 6-0 win over Burbank.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Wilson defeated Compton, 28-3. Jacob Barham had a double, triple and three RBI.

Beckman defeated Northwood, 5-4. Adam Lamar struck out two in his one inning of work.

In the Eastern League, Roosevelt defeated Bell, 2-1. Robert Contreras got the win and had an RBI.

In the Marine League, Justin Yanez threw a one-hitter in Banning’s 3-1 win over Carson. He struck out six and walked one. Banning scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

In the Western League, Palisades defeated Westchester, 10-2. Jed Moscot got the win.

Narbonne defeated Gardena, 13-1. Roman Ale, the quarterback for the Gauchos’ football team, had a home run and four RBI. Isaiah Flowers went four for four.

New Community Jewish defeated Yeshiva, 12-1. Zach Miller struck out 12.

Village Christian defeated Maranatha, 2-1. Viewpoint defeated Windward, 10-3. Jake Feuerman and Charles Kleinman each had three hits.
