Football: Showdown game features junior QBs Jack Telenko and Grant Lowary

The Sunset League championship will be decided on Thursday night at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach when Edison (7-2, 4-0) faces Los Alamitos (8-1, 4-0). And the big surprise is the development of the junior quarterbacks who became starters.
For Los Alamitos, the plan early in the summer was to use punter-linebacker Blake Johnson as the quarterback. Then Jack Telenko, a JV quarterback last season at Tesoro, showed up.
Each week, Telenko gets better and better. He has passed for 1,757 yards and 17 touchdowns with only three interceptions in his first season on varsity.
For Edison, Grant Lowary, the younger brother of Mater Dei quarterback Jack Lowary, has been coming on strong since becoming the starter after an injury to Matthew Gane. He passed for 251 yards last week in a win over Fountain Valley. He’s up to 1,006 yards passing and 12 touchdowns with two interceptions.
