Raiders’ Derek Carr has bruised right hand

The Oakland Tribune

ALAMEDA, Calif. The Raiders received good news on quarterback Derek Carr after his Monday morning MRI on his right hand revealed simply a bruise.

“We think he’s going to be OK,” coach Jack Del Rio said.

Carr’s status for Sunday’s game hasn’t been determined, but the Raiders haven’t ruled out that he could play against the Baltimore Ravens.

“He was up here in the office this morning showing me he could squeeze a ball,” Del Rio said of Carr. “It was good news. We’re all relieved.”

Del Rio said the Raiders have no plans to bring in another quarterback at this time.

Carr was injured in the second quarter Sunday when he tried to stiff-arm Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones as he was being chased near the sideline. Carr was trying to scramble for a first down.

“Using his throwing hand as a straight-arm tool, I would probably not ask him to repeat that,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio didn’t have a formal update on Nate Allen or Charles Woodson, both of whom received MRIs on Monday. ESPN reported the Raiders feared Allen could have a torn right anterior cruciate ligament. Del Rio indicated it’s a severe injury, but not necessarily season-ending.

“We feel like he may have a chance to return,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio did not have the results of Woodson’s MRI and also said defensive tackle Justin Ellis is “doing OK” after leaving Sunday’s game because of an ankle injury.
