Former USC tailback Javorius Allen demonstrates pass-catching ability

Javorius Allen received words of advice from his grandmother after he decided to enter the NFL draft.

She told him to take his first paycheck to the bank.

That is what the former USC tailback intends to do, but the amount he deposits will depend on his final team workouts before the draft.

Allen, 6 foot and 221 pounds, participated in field drills at pro day Wednesday, but chose not to run the 40-yard dash after he clocked a time of 4.53 seconds at the NFL scouting combine last month.

“If you did good at the combine, you can control the things you do” at pro day, he said.

In front of several NFL scouts, Allen caught multiple balls out of the backfield.

“It felt great,” he said.

The last USC tailbacks selected in the draft were Allen Bradford and Stanley Havili in 2011. They were selected in the sixth and seventh round, respectively.

In a league that no longer puts a premium on the position, Allen said his selection would depend on team needs.

“Hopefully a team out there thinks highly of me,” he said.
