Watch outdoor movies with your pet at Eat See Hear

At Eat See Hear’s outdoor summer movie screenings, people arrive hours early to take advantage of the live music and the fleet of food trucks parked nearby. Once it gets dark, they settle into lawn chairs on blankets to watch such modern classics as “Jaws,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Die Hard” and “Young Frankenstein.”

It’s summer fun for everyone, including pets, who are welcome at all of Eat See Hear’s events.

The screenings are at different places in and around L.A., including outside the Autry Museum in Griffith Park, Centennial Square at Pasadena City Hall and the Santa Monica High School Amphitheatre.

Sharon Sperber, co-founder of Eat See Hear, said she was committed to making the summer screenings pet-friendly.

Dogs wait to be adopted at the Watts Project booth during Eat See Hear's outdoor summer movie screening. Eat See Hear is a part of No-Kill Los Angeles, an initiative with the Best Friends Animal Society pet rescue that tries to ensure no animals are euthanized at animal shelters.

“We wanted to create an event that we would want to go to,” Sperber said. (The “we” refers to her co-founder and husband, Jeff.)

Dogs are the most frequent attendees, but Sperber said all are welcome: She has seen cats, rabbits and birds.

All animals must be on a leash. Dog treats at the door and bowls of water are provided.

Eat See Hear is a part of No-Kill Los Angeles, an initiative with the Best Friends Animal Society pet rescue trying to ensure no animals are euthanized at shelters. Different rescue organizations come to screenings to try to connect potential owners with the critters.

Sperber said about 50 to 100 people have told her they either met their new pet at an Eat See Hear event or learned about Best Friends Animal Society and adopted an animal at one of its locations.
