Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars will be among the performers at Rock in Rio, a May music festival in Las Vegas that’s modeled on a wildly popular celebration in Rio de Janeiro.
Tickets for Rock in Rio go on sale Jan. 20. The event will be in the City of Rock, a purpose-built venue being constructed near Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.
The 33-acre site will incorporate six stages and three themed streets that can hold 80,000 people. The festival will be on May 8 and 9 and May 15 and 16.
Swift will perform May 15 and Mars and John Legend on May 16. Other onfirmed acts include Deftones and Metallica on May 9.
Besides more than 10 hours of music each weekend, the City of Rock will be bustling with other activities along Rock Street Brazil, Rock Street London and Rock Street USA.
The Brazilian-themed street will come alive with traditional Latin music as well as demonstrations of capoeira, a mixture of dancing and martial arts.
The British sounds of the ’60s -- music made famous by the Beatles and Rolling Stones -- will waft along the street with the London theme. Food and drink will be available at a British pub.
The American street is being crafted to look like New Orleans’ French Quarter. Jazz musicians and dancers will stroll along the street.
General admission tickets cost $298 per weekend and include access to all stages and attractions. VIP admission costs $498 per day and adds access to the VIP area with an open bar and gourmet food.
