Letters: Donating life to cancer patients

Re “A death postponed,” Opinion, June 30
As a bone marrow stem cell transplant survivor going on five years, I was so taken with Peter Garrison’s story of how his donation of white cells not only saved a leukemia patient’s eyesight but also raised his immune system. The sacrifices of blood, platelet, white cell, stem cell and bone-marrow donors can save so many lives, and in Garrison’s story, someone’s eyesight.
I received an ex-Navy SEAL’s stem cells in August 2008. I’m doing extremely well and have recommended three leukemia patients for successful stem cell transplants at City of Hope.
The process of registration and donation is simple and almost pain-free. When considering the lives that are saved, the experience is incredible.
Thanks to all who have made a difference.
